LensCap

Privacy Policy

LensCap was called Radium until October 2026. Only the name changed: accounts, clips and these terms carry over as they were.

Last updated 22 October 2026

LensCap is a screen recorder. It sees a great deal and sends almost none of it anywhere. This page says exactly which parts leave your computer, and what happens to them when they do.

The short version

Your recordings stay on your computer unless you choose to share one. There is no analytics, no tracking and no advertising in the app, and nothing is ever sold. If you make an account we hold your username, your email address and your shared clips. Email [email protected] and we will delete the lot.

1. Who we are

LensCap is owned, built and run by Maxolith Studios (maxolith.com.au; ABN 27 184 513 885, Perth, Western Australia, Australia), which is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. Contact us at any time at [email protected].

We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Where the EU or UK GDPR applies to you, section 10 sets out our legal bases and your additional rights.

2. What the app does on your computer

This matters more than anything else here, so it is stated first. The LensCap desktop application keeps a rolling buffer of your screen, and optionally your microphone, on your own machine. That footage is never transmitted anywhere. It is written to your own disk, overwritten continuously as the buffer rolls, and deleted when you uninstall.

The app makes network requests in only three situations:

There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifier and no usage measurement of any kind in the application. We do not know how many clips you have recorded, which games you play, or whether you have opened the app today.

Something the software cannot decide for you

A screen recorder captures whatever is on screen, and microphone capture may record other people in a voice call. Whether you may lawfully record another person varies by where you and they are, and some places require everyone's consent. LensCap gives you the controls; deciding what is appropriate to record is yours. See clause 6 of the Terms.

3. What we collect

You can use LensCap to record and edit clips without an account. An account is only needed to share clips from our server.

WhatWhenWhy
Username You create an account Identifies your clips and your account
Email address You create an account Confirming the account is real, and contacting you about it
Password, stored only as a scrypt hash You create an account Signing in. We cannot read your password
An API key Automatically, with the account Lets the app upload without storing your password
Clips and screenshots you share, plus their title, the game detected, file size and upload date You press Share Hosting the clip and showing it on its page
A view count per shared clip Someone opens the clip page So you can see whether a link was opened. It is a number only; we do not record who viewed it
Subscription identifiers from Stripe You subscribe to Pro Knowing which tier your account is on
Server logs, including IP address, time and the page or file requested Any request to our servers Security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults

We use one cookie, on clips.lenscap.gg, which holds a signed session token so the site knows you are signed in. It is not used for tracking, and there are no third-party cookies, advertising pixels or analytics scripts on our sites.

4. Why we hold it

Everything above exists to do one of four things:

We do not build advertising profiles, we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, and we do not use your clips to train machine learning models.

5. Shared clips and who can see them

Read this before sharing anything sensitive

A shared clip is unlisted, not private. Anyone holding the link can open it without signing in. Links are long and random, and clip pages tell search engines not to index them, but a link you post publicly is public. Do not share anything through LensCap that would harm you if a stranger opened it.

Clips you have not shared are never uploaded. Deleting a shared clip from your account removes the file from our server, though anyone who already downloaded a copy keeps it, which is true of every file on the internet.

6. Payments

LensCap Pro is billed through Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own checkout page and are never sent to, seen by, or stored on our servers. We receive only the identifiers needed to tell whether your subscription is active.

Stripe processes this information as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.

7. Who else sees your data

We use a small number of providers, and no others:

We will disclose information where the law requires it, such as a valid court order, and to protect our rights or someone's safety in an emergency. If LensCap is ever sold or transferred, your information may move with it, and you will be told before that happens.

8. How long we keep it

9. Security

All traffic to our sites is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are stored as scrypt hashes with a per-password salt and are never stored or logged in a readable form. Session cookies are cryptographically signed. API keys are random, are held on your own machine, and can be replaced by changing your password.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires, and any other regulator the law requires.

10. Your rights

You may ask us at any time to:

Email [email protected] from the address on the account. We will respond within 30 days, and usually far sooner. There is no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

If the EU or UK GDPR applies to you, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you (providing the service and hosting your clips), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention and keeping the service running), and compliance with legal obligations (tax records). You additionally have the rights to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

11. Children

LensCap is not intended for children under 16. If you are under 16, do not create an account. If we learn that we hold an account belonging to someone under 16, we will delete it and any clips attached to it. A parent or guardian who believes their child has created an account should email us and we will remove it.

12. Overseas storage

Our servers are located in Australia. Stripe and Google process data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union, under their own safeguards. By using the paid tier or creating an account you consent to that disclosure, which is unavoidable for taking payments and sending email.

13. Changes and contact

We may update this policy. The date at the top always shows when it last changed, and if a change materially affects you we will say so on the site or by email rather than quietly editing the page.
